UNDERSTANDING HYPERHIDROSIS

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating beyond what is necessary for normal body temperature regulation. It can affect various parts of the body, including the underarms, palms, soles of the feet, and face. Primary hyperhidrosis occurs without an underlying medical condition, while secondary hyperhidrosis may be a symptom of an underlying health issue.

HOW WE HELP

Hyperhidrosis is the medical name given to the condition of excessive sweating. It is a common medical condition affecting both men and women equally and usually begins whether as a child or an adolescent. This type of sweating occurs on very specific areas of the body and is usually relatively “symmetric” meaning that both the left and right sides of the body are affected similarly. The most common focal areas are the hands, feet, underarms, and face or head. You can have one area affected or a combination of the above. The cause is unknown. Sweating is controlled by our brain and likely the glands are over stimulated in some way resulting in too much sweating

WHAT CAUSES EXCESSIVE SWEATING?

We sweat to regulate our body temperature, but some life changes such as pregnancy or menopause can create excessive sweating. thanks to the discovery of Botulinum toxin A which came as a breakthrough in the treatment of HH.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TEATED BY BOTOX?

UNDERARM

Botox® injections work well for nearly all cases of underarm (axilla) sweating and is the easiest to administer. Often a simple solution is put on the skin to see the exact area a person sweats from and then Botox® in injected with tiny needles just under the skin. Most people achieve a 90% reduction in sweating.

PALMS

We have seen that Botox® injections are very effective at treating palmar sweating. As the hands are sensitive, we use a freezing technique to minimize discomfort.

MORE INFORMATIN ABOUT OUR EXCESSIVE SWEAT SOLUTION

Our trained physicians ensure that there is minimal to no pain during the injections, although you may experience some injection related discomfort.
The length of treatment depends on the area being treated. On average, the treatments are completed in 10 to 20 minutes
The reduction in sweating begins to take effect in the first few days, but it may take up to 1 week to reach full effectiveness but the results are dramatic. On average, there is over 80% decrease of sweat production in that area that lasts on average 7 months. Remarkably, up to a third of patients can go 1 year before they return for more. Therefore, you are treated once or maximally twice per year and don’t have to worry about constantly treating the area.
Side effects, if they occur, are temporary. These commonly include minor bruising and swelling at the injection site. Other reported side effects include dry mouth, tiredness, headache, neck pain, and dry eyes.
There are very few restrictions regarding Botox® treatments for Hyperhidrosis. Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a known neurological disorder (i.e. Myasthenia Gravis or Eaton Lambert Syndrome), allergy to the ingredients in the botulinum toxin formulation, specifically albumin, should not be treated.
